This may look like just lumps of clay, but it’s actually a bunch of mugs in the making! 🤗 Handmade Christmas gifts coming up from my little workshop will be available for purchase soon. #handmade #shoplocal #wip #clay #ceramics #mugs #christmasgifts #independentartist #workshop #pottery #myieshaatlarge
Well folks, here it is...the very first woodfired kiln that I designed and built. This is the first thing that I’ve done in a while that has given me a real sense of accomplishment. My goal was to finish it by my birthday last month, which didn’t happen. But I finished. It took approximately 2 weeks to build. All of the materials were used and I constantly found myself imagining what the process could have been like if I had access to new materials. But it happened exactly how it should have. Ask anyone who is forced to create something from nothing and you will see just how creative and resourceful they can be. This is consistent with how I want to work, using scraps to create something that is useful and will hopefully produce some beautiful things. This kiln should hold quite a few ceramic sculptures and pots and should reach temperatures up to 2280 degrees Fahrenheit. I’m already thinking about building the next one! #woodfired #kiln #pottery #woodfiredceramics #potterykiln #clay #madebyhand #backyardarchitecture #workinprogress #creativework #artist #outdoors #buildingstuff #create #ceramics #itisfinished #myieshaatlarge
Firing a woodfired kiln is a lot of work and a firing that lasts for days requires the help of several attentive people to manage the temperature. Here’s an example of stoking through the front door of the kiln. #ceramics #woodfiredpottery #pottery #kiln #woodfiredceramics #testkiln #creativework #oxford #kilnfiring #wythamwoods #art #education #oxfordanagamaproject #england #thegreatoutdoors #myieshaatlarge
I was on ‘side stoking’ duty for a bit. This is a close up of the side of the kiln. That little bundle of wood (called a train) had to be monitored and guided into the kiln slowly as it burned. It is still mesmerizing to me to watch the flame slowly consume the wood. I learned a lot about controlling the temperature by side stoking. #ceramics #woodfiredpottery #pottery #kiln #woodfiredceramics #testkiln #creativework #oxford #kilnfiring #wythamwoods #art #education #oxfordanagamaproject #england #thegreatoutdoors #myieshaatlarge
I had a lot of fun learning from some new friends in Oxford during a firing of one of their test kilns. #ceramics #woodfiredpottery #pottery #kiln #woodfiredceramics #testkiln #creativework #oxford #kilnfiring #wythamwoods #art #education #oxfordanagamaproject #england #thegreatoutdoors #myieshaatlarge
Was leaving the beach and saw what someone created to let us know they were there. #iseeyou #weareconnected #beach #stones #creatives #design #sculpture #sea #seascape #rocks #makestuff #myieshaatlarge
It’s postcard day! I found this one at a bookstore in Bristol while passing through. “You can’t separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless he has his freedom.” (Malcolm X). #malcolmx #portrait #postcardday #postcard #photograph #blackhistorymonth #myieshaatlarge
